If you are currently using Castille Soap, Baking Soda, Borax, White Vinegar, Essential Oils, Charcoal, and plant based items your are shopping non-toxic right?
Weeeell, not exactly. If it uses toxic ingredients, or makes toxic by-products in production, it’s toxic.
Mono-crops, imports, agroindustrial ingredients, petrochemical-reliant products and items with hidden animal ingredients abound under the guise of eco, green, natural and non-toxic. We need to at least discuss the eco-credentials of:
- Lye/Soap— one of the two core factories for all the soap produced in the USA is in Louisiana’s ‘cancer alley’, where there are a cluster of brain tumors among workers. Every soap bar in America is made using factory made chemicals.
- ‘Natural’ Boar hair brushes that rely on the carbon polluting and cruel meat industry.
- Petroleum-based white cleaning vinegar. This stuff isn’t plant-based at all, so you might be better off buying something cheaper that actually is.
- What do we know about Baking soda, Colloidal oatmeal, Activated charcoal, Cornstarch/rice starch, etc, etc, etc? These staples of modern life are often born and produced from the petrochemical industry and other questionable sources.
